(FLO-mis: sah-MEE-a) This one is the true species, those plants sold as P. samia with yellow flowers are P. russeliana. This species grows 4-6 feet tall and has dull purple flowers in whorls around the stems. Attractive gray-green foliage. A vigorous species forming large clumps with spreading stems and like the other Phlomis species, it needs well-drained soils in full sun.
This species is native from Greece to Yugoslavia throughout Western Asia and Northern Africa. The species name comes from the island of Samos in the Aegean Sea, were they are found growing. Germination in spread out over many weeks, use 3 weeks at 80�F. In no results then 4 weeks at 40-45F, then back to 68-75F. keep moist but not overly wet.
