Grows 4 to 6 feet tall, with violet-purple flowers in whorls around the stems. Attractive gray-green foliage and a shrub like habit. Like the other Phlomis species, it needs well-drained soils in full sun. Native from Eastern Europe to Siberia - were it is found growing in dry, rocky, well draining ground. Blooms in mid summer.
Zones 4-9. This species evergreen in the south but in the north its leaves die over the winter, keep dry in the fall and winter. Germination in less than two weeks at 70ºF, if no germination put in the fridge (34-39F). for four weeks, them move back to 70F.
