'Purple Bell Vine' (roh-doh-KY-ton: at-ro-SANG-win-ee-um) Scrophulariaceae:
A perennial (most often grown as an annual) vine growing ten feet tall the first year with purple colored, bell-shaped flowers that are 2 to 3 inches across. Heart shaped leaves. Grow in full sun and in a moist soil that is rich in organic matter. Give some type of support for the plant to cling too for support. Native to southern Mexico and hardy in zones 11. Fast growing and flowering from mid summer into late fall. Start seeds early, seeds may take from 1 to 5 weeks to germinate - soak seeds for 24 hours in warm water to speed up germination.
