'Meadow Beauty' Melastomataceae:
An attractive species for moist to wet soils. It has opposite leaves with large hairs and very toothed edges. It grow 1 to 2 feet tall with 1.5 inch purple-pink flowers. The flowers have four petals and four strange looking stamens. Blooms mid to late summer. This species is buzz pollinated. Grow in full sun in moisture retentive to damp soils.
Sow at 70ºF, if no germination in 3 or 4 weeks, move to refrigerator (28-39F) for 4 to 6 weeks, then back to 70ºF for germination in 1-3 weeks.
