This species produces Whorls of violet-blue flowers that are closely packed together into a spike like inflorensance. Amplexicaulis means 'stem-clasping' In reference to the way the leaves clasp around the stems. Plants are somewhat like a larger type of S. nemorosa growing around 30 to 36 inches tall. Full sun in well draining soils. Native from Yugoslavia, Albania, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey. Zones 7-10. Lightly cover seeds and use 65-75ºC, germination is spread out over many months.
