[Anemanthele lessoniana] 'Pheasant's Tail Grass' or 'Feather Grass'
Plants form dense clumps with graceful arching leaves. The thin leaves develop a rusty-orange and tan-gold coloring in the fall. The flowering stems in late summer reach 3-4 feet tall and turn a brown tan. Does best in full sun to light shade in moisture retentive, well drained soils. Evergreen and keeping its color much of the winter with new growth in late spring. Once established plants are drought tolerant. Plants do well for four or five years and then decline. Were happy and there is open soil, self sowing occurs but not to any troubling degree. Very good grass for year round interest and out standing on the top of a hill with the sun setting behind it. The colorful foliage gives the plant its common name 'Pheasant's Tail Grass'
Zones (7) 8-10. This seed is aged and should germinate in 15 days at 70F. or Sow at 24--39ºF for 12 weeks, move to 65--72ºF days and 55-60ºF nights for Germination. Or sow and keep outside in the fall for Germination in mid spring.
