'Mastic Thyme' or 'Spanish Wood Marjoram'
Upright growing plants, around 12 to 24 inches tall, with wavy-edged, downy leaves. The foliage has a pungent camphor aroma. The leaves are used for flavoring meats and an oil is extracted for use as an essential oil. Not an overly attractive garden subject but can be grown as a culinary herb. This bushy perennial with a hairy stems and dark green, oval shaped leaves and small off white flowers is extremely aromatic and has a place in a scented garden too.
Zones 7-9. Native from Spain & Portugal.
