[Oxycoccos macrocarpus] 'Large Cranberry' or American Cranberry or 'Bearberry

This species is native to northeastern North America. The leaves are 10-20 mm long, and the fruits have a slightly apple-like taste. Plants are very low-growing, reaching 3-6 inches tall, with long trailing stems with pink flowers in Mid summer resembling tiny shooting stars. Best growth in highly acidic bogs, but also makes a good garden groundcover in the garden. The soil needs to remains moist and plants can take a lot of flooding during rains.
