Some species of Lychnis are among the best known of old-fashioned flowers, including Mullein Pink, Maltese Cross and Ragged Robin. They are flower-garden subjects and generally easy to grow. Others, as L. alpine, are better known as border or rockwork plants. All are easily grown from seeds, the biennials and perennials blooming the second year. The perennials can often also be propagated by division. All of them thrive in full sun, and most like very good drainage in the fall and winter.
