Purple-headed Sneezeweed (hell-EN-ee-um: flex-you-OH-some) Asteraceae:
Helenium flexuosum is typically early summer blooming with yellow flowers that have brownish-purple tinted central discs. A useful plant for growing in damp soils. Plants grow 2 to 3 feet (3 ft = 91.4 cm) tall and about 2 feet (2 ft = 61 cm) wide, the plants have many branched paniculiform arrays with flowers widely dispersed, giving the blooming plants an open neat appearance. For the best effect, in late June cut the plants in half to give them a more full look and a more sturdy upright habit. They are nice attractive additions to the flower bed.
Lightly cover seeds and use 70F (70 °F = 21.1 °C) to 78. Seed germination starts in 7 to 10 days.
