Rock Cress (AR-UH-biss: blef-ar-oh-FIL-uh)
Many showy 1 inch rosy pink colored flowers in clusters at the top of short growing medium green plants. Grows from 4 to 10 inches tall and blooms in early to late spring. Cutting back the plants as they start to finish blooming will promote rebloom and extend the blooming period in to early summer. Use in full sun to light shade in well draining soils in a rock garden or even on a rock wall. Does well in sandy soils and not so well on heavy clay soils. After blooming cut plants back to promote a thick mat of foliage that is useful as a ground cover. Plants do not like to be overwhelmed by larger neighbors or hot muggy weather. Nice in between paving stones too.
Zones (3)4-8. But needs some protection in zone 4 from moisture and freeze thaw cycles. Plants will bloom the second year.
