Plants with many red-colored flowers with yellow stamens and throats. Blooms mid-spring into early summer. Best in the open shade to part shade. Grows well in dry soils too. In full sun plants bloom much more but are shorter and not as long-lived. Self-seeds freely to form nice clumps on open soils. Hummingbirds like the flowers, easy to grow and attractive. Good for a woodland setting or on rocky soils. Will bloom the second year. Growing about 2 to 2.5 feet tall.
