This species of cone-flower has long, thin foliage that has a rough sand-paper texture. The flowering heads end 2 to 3 foot tall stems. The heads have long hanging with rosy to soft purple rays. Blooms earlier than E. purpurea. Grow in full sun or part shade. Grows from a deep taproot, so larger established plants should be left alone, it is a drought resistant species that does well in rocky or mineral based soils.
