[Echinacea purpurea 'Pow Wow Wild Berry'] Purple Coneflower Asteraceae:
This All-America Selections 2010 Flower Award Winner has deep rose-purple colored ray petals and dark reddish-purple center cones. The flowers are 3 to 4 inches (4 in = 10.2 cm) wide and retain their color longer than other purple cone flower selections. This is a bushy, lower growing selection that grows around 24 inches (24 in = 61 cm) tall. Grow in full sun to part shade in rich, well draining soils. Long flowering period, even without deadheading. Blooms the same year with an early spring sowing.
Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours, sow and cover seeds. Darkness needed for best germination, which takes place from 10 to 50 days at F 70. If little germination in 4 weeks, moving to 28 to 38F (38F = 3.3C) for 4 to 8 weeks produces a more uniform germination rate.
