Standing Cypress or Scarlet Gilia (ip-oh-MOP-sis: RU-bruh) Polemoniaceae:
Plants grow 3 to 6 feet tall and produce spike like clusters of bright red colored flowers, the flowers are trumpet shaped and loved by butterflies and hummingbirds. Grow in full sun but will take some shade too. Grow in soils that are Low to moderate in moisture content with plants being drought tolerant. Best to sow in place since plants resent root disturbance, or use deep cell plugs and transplant out when still small.
Grown as biennials or short lived perennials, self seeds were happy. Native to Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, South Carolina, Texas.
