Lilium canadense


(LIL-ee-um: ka-na-DEN-see) Liliaceae:

Lilium canadense grows 2 to 5 feet tall with down facing bell-like flower with wide flaring mouth. Lilium canadense has lance shaped, mid green leaves that are arranged in whorls around upright stems. The flowers are yellow, orange or occasional red, and are slightly scented. The trumpet shaped flowers have recurved petal tips and are spotted with dark red/maroon spots. Blooms in late spring to mid summer. Performed best in a moist but well-drained soil with a neutral to acid pH, in full sun or light shade.

Native to eastern North America, were it is found found in open woodlands, on wooded slopes, in savannas, in woodland openings, and growing in moist meadows.
