Red flowering plants that grow up to 2 feet tall. A nice plant mixed among short grasses. The flowers make a nice additions to flower arrangements and the plants will bloom the first year with a early spring sowing. Drought and heat tolerant. Small enough for a rock garden and useful for the front of a perennial border. Blooms from mid summer to fall. A compact low growing selection with more solidly red flowers.
Best results if started with 9 weeks at 30-39F. Move to 70-80ºF for germination. Since this selection has had some selective breeding and has been dried, the normal dormancy of the species has diminished and seeds very often will germinate in 2 to 3 weeks at 70F. Very thinly cover the seeds with soil medium.
