Checker Mallow or Salt Spring Checkerbloom
Sidalcea neomexicana is another attractive species with upright stems from 2 to 4 feet tall. The flowers are a purple-pink (rose-magenta) color. The foliage has a rounded shape at the base of the plants, and is cut at the middle of the stems, and close to the flowers the leaves are deeply cut and hand like with 7 or 8 fingers. Sidalcea neomexicana grows best in moist but well drained soils in full sun to part shade.
Native to western USA and Mexico.
