Clary or Muscatel Sage or Clary Sage (SAL-vee-uh: SKLAR-ee-uh)
Salvia sclarea is a biennial or short-lived perennial with sturdy branched stems that are thick and quadrangular in shape. The leaves are large, aromatic, and light green in color. The ovate leaves at the base of the plants can grow to be about 9 inches long. The flowers arise from large bracts that are sometimes more colorful than the lilac-rose to near white flowers. The stems grow up to three feet tall, and plants bloom the second year. Best flowering and display in porr soils, rich moist soils will produce dense foliage and tall floppy plants.
