Solidago speciosa

Showy Goldenrod

Tall upright plants with showy heads of bright yellow flowers in late summer. Grows best in a sunny location with moderately dry well-draining soils. Grows 3 to 4.5 feet tall, blooming late summer and fall with bright yellow flowers in dense heads that end the stems, the flowers are produced in upright heads instead of the wide or downward produced heads of many other Goldenrods. Plants are slowly spreading by way of short underground rhizomes, so in a garden setting may need to be contained or extra plants dug a removed every few years. Nice cut flower.
