Salvia transsylvanica


Plants grow 3-4.5 feet tall and have large 'claws' for flowers that are a good dark blue color. Large salvia with multiple upright stems that bend out word. The stems are thick and have prominently angled edges. It has large-felt like leaves that are somewhat wrinkled. The foliage is a nice dark green color and if plants are cut back after flowering- they will flower again in a few weeks. Nice plant for the back of the boarder or mixed in with shrubs. Summer blooming. Will flower some the first year with an early spring sowing. 

Zones 4-9

Surface Sow with germination in 15-30 days at 70F. Germination may be slow and extended over a number of weeks. 
Thinly cover seeds with soil medium and keep at 65 to 70F (70F = 21.1C), if no Germination in 3 weeks, move to 30 to 39F (39 F = 3.9 C) for four weeks then move back to 65 to 75 F (75 F = 23.9 C). Germination occurs over a 1-10 week period.
