Spreading clumps growing around 10 inches tall with clusters of reddish-purple flowers covering the ends of the upright stems. Blooms late spring and early summer.
Stachys officinalis is an easily grown perennial that does well in average, to well-drained soils in full sun. In hot locations it does better if some light shade is provided in the afternoon. Best in soils that are kept evenly moist, but established plants have some drought tolerance. Spreads by way creeping stems that root as they grow on top of the ground. Plant out 12-18” apart for use as a ground cover.
