Gentiana straminea

$2.50

Gentiana straminea is a perennial growing 10-35 cm tall with white to straw colored, upright facing flowers. The flowers are produced in showy clusters at the ends of the somewhat lax stems in late summer. The delicately marked flowers top arching stems that have fleshy, broadly lanceolate leaves. The basal leaves are linear-lancelate shaped and up to 22 cm long, the leaves on the stems are a few and oppositely arranged. An easily cultivated gentian species that does best in a rich, well-drained soil in full sun to light shade. Gentiana straminea is a nice addition to a rock garden or mixed with other short perennials in a border. Not as showy as some other gentian species but charming in its own way.

Native to China and Nepal, where it is found growing along streams, in valleys, on rocky slopes, in alpine meadows, scrub, forests, and clearings in forests.
