Celastrus scandens

This species is a twining, climbing vine growing up to 20 feet with 1/4 inch wide, rounded, fleshy fruits. The fruits are produced in hanging clusters 2 to 4 inches long that open to reveal bright red seeds that are a showy display in fall and winter. Plants should be grown in a sunny location and are an ornamental plant with uses both outdoors and indoors. The plants can be trained to climb walls, trellises, and fences. The berry-like fruits are showy and eaten by wildlife but are toxic if eaten by people.
