Blood-red colored flowers that are not very larger but grouped into clusters on plants that grow 15 to 20 inches tall with upright stems. Late spring and early summer blooming. The evergreen foliage has a blue-green color. Dianthus cruentus is easy to grow and is very attractive to bees and butterflies. Avoid wet soil in winter. Grow in full sun in well drained soils. Does well in dry soils once established. Some self seeding. Interesting cut flower.
