Lilium szovitsianum is a hardy lily species with large, nodding, light canary yellow flowers. Resembles Lilium monadelphum, with thick, recurved tepeled flowers that have a waxy texture. The flowers are also pleasantly scented. Grows 3 to 6 feet tall and mature plants produce more than 20 large flowers. Grow in full sun to part shade, soils should be well draining but heavy. Resents drying out.
Native to Transcaucasia and the southern region of the Black Sea area.
Lilium szovitsianum seeds have delayed hypogeal germination, the first true leaf only after a 3 month cold period. Start with 90 Days warm (65F) and then move to 30-39F for 12 weeks, then move back to 65F for leaf emergence.
