This species grows 20 to 36 inches tall and is a beautiful North American native wildflower with small but attractive bright yellow flowers and attractive seedpods. Each flower only lasts for a day but the yellowish sepals remain, and after flowering, the plants have interesting seed pods. It is a host plant for the banded sphinx moth.  Grows best in moist to wet soils.
