Plants grow 4 to 8 feet (8 ft = 2.44 m) tall with large clusters of bright red colored flowers at the ends of long stems with felty textured leaves. Grow in full sun in well draining soils, plants do not like damp soils especially in winter, this species unlike most others in the genus likes it hot and dry. Blooms mid to late summer. Loved by Hummingbirds.
Seeds are on the small side, so surface sow and use 68 to 76F (76 F = 24.4 C) with germination in a few weeks, use a well draining soil medium, waterlogged soils can cause root rot.
